There's never a dull moment at Metropolis...the condominium known for having the hottest openly gay tenants in town. The boys of Metropolis are always on the prowl for a good time. They like their drinks heavy and their tricks easy.

Gary should be living it up in his South Tower unit of Metropolis, but he's having a hard time adjusting to his newly single status. It's not easy to walk away from five years with his ex, who he discovered was cheating on him with some North Tower twink. After a night out partying, licking his wounds, he goes to bed alone. When he wakes the next morning, there's a naked guy in his bed. Not just any guy. A stud from North Tower. But hot as he is, what the hell is he doing in his room?

Travis doesn't get why Gary's freaking out. So he went home with Gary's roommate and accidentally crawled into the wrong bed. It's not the first time he's woken up in a strange place. Maybe Gary would loosen up a little if he gave it a try as well. Travis has more important things to deal with though...like his meeting with an investor who could give him the money to start his massage clinic.

They're both sure that's the last time they'll have to deal with each other until a mix-up leads Gary's ex and Travis's investor to think they're an item, which Gary and Travis use to their benefit by posing as a couple around town. Soon, they discover the chemistry between them is off the charts. Travis brings out a sexual confidence Gary didn't know he had--one Travis enjoys exploring with him. But as the two keep up their boyfriend hoax, Gary realizes Travis isn't as shallow as he thought. Gary's starting to develop feelings for him. But Travis doesn't do relationships, and Gary should know better, considering they're just faking it...

This story was so perfect. It was a little harder for me to read because Riley and Devon write their characters so well. They seem so real and have such honest emotions and reactions- they werent perfect. They didn't react 'perfectly'. So it made me feel more empathetic towards them. I cant wait to read through the sexy, the awkward, the hard, and the beautiful world they create. Definitely new favorite authors.
I really enjoyed my first foray into the Metropolis world and will probably devour the rest of the series as soon as I can because there are characters I came across that I can't wait to get the lowdown on. Travis and Gary's story grabbed me by the gills because they both had such self - esteem issues because of things in their pasts but they dealt with them in different ways. Gary is quiet and tries to be invisible and Travis is boisterous and outgoing. This fake relationship may bring out the best or the worst in them. Sometimes it is difficult to understand why people treat others the way they do but Riley and Devon do a great job bring to light that there is NOTHING wrong with who you are and I love that lesson.
Faking It is the first book in this new series and I enjoyed how quickly it introduced our two heroes to each other. Gary was a shy guy who had been hurt badly by a cheating ex. Travis is an open, unapologetic guy who has a huge heart and takes pity on Gary when he is cornered by his ex. Next thing he knows, they now have to fake a relationship for him to seem reliable to a prospective investor, and for Gary to not seem so pathetic to his ex.

This was fun and light, with incredibly hot sex scenes. There was some great depth and emotion given to Travis and his journey, but I feel as though not the same was given to Gary. His background was more or less just thrown in and dealt with rather easily and quickly. But this story was still enjoyable and a lot of fun. If you like hot m/m action then you might enjoy this. The secondary characters were great and I look forward to reading their stories.
If you want the grade school 1st person diary narrative of Devon McCormack, then this series is for you. If you want the usual superb writing and meaningful depth of Riley Hart find another of her series and save your money on this one. This series is immature, superficial, with juvenile attempts at character development, layering, storyline, and irrelevant 1st person rambling dialog. A HUGE disappointment.
My Review
Overall 3.75
Performance 4.0
Story 3.5

There were things I really liked about this story/series and some that I really didn't. I loved both the guys and how seemingly different they were from one another...but they work. But as they get to know one another, they begin to realize they have more in common than they ever would have thought when they started this fake relationship.

Travis is one of those guys...he's simply a nice guy who likes to have a good time. He's completely unapologetic about it. He sleeps with a lot of guys, but hey...he's single and upfront with them about what he wants. So when he sees Gary's ex giving Gary a hard time, Travis steps in to put him in his place and things spiral from there.

I loved that aspect of the story and how the relationship grew between the two guys. Despite their chemistry, they truly become friends first and I loved that. I also really loved how Travis handled Gary. Gary doesn't have the most self-confidence in the world...which Travis does not understand. So, he's constantly making sure that Gary realizes his worth. Gary blossoms under that appreciation an it was awesome to watch his confidence grow.

Both guys have issues with their sexuality and what it means in their families. Although their circumstances aren't the same, they are close enough that the two guys connect over the similarities.

The only thing about the story that I really didn't like was the whole Metropolis setting. It had a whole swinging 70's/Studio 54 vibe to it that I kind of hated. It felt like something you would find in a telenovela soap opera...so over the top with the gay drama of where they live...which sucks because that's the setting/premise for the entire series.

But thankfully, the authors have written strong enough characters to overcome my distaste for the Metropolis...because I did really enjoy this book and look forward to listening to the next one, too which I've already bought.
What an awesome story!

It was a great combination of hot, light and fun and also dealt with issues that were close to the heart.

I adored Gary and Travis in this story, Gary wanting to blend into the background especially after he breaks up with his boyfriend, Travis the man who hooks up on a regular basis but never has a serious relationship.

I loved the evolving dynamic between these two, Travis becoming more vulnerable while Gary came into his own, confident in his own skin more and more as the story progressed (and that strip scene was off the charts).

Great start to what I'm sure will be a fantastic series! )
